Remake of the classic Lode Runner game
Lode Runner Classic is a premium adventure game for mobile from developer Tozai Games. It is a remake of the classic 2D platformer Lode Runner that launched for the Apple II back in 1983. It is a faithful replication of the original's gameplay while introducing some modern improvements and features to enhance the overall experience.
Similar to a game called Mine Runner, Lode Runner Classic combines retro graphics with puzzle-solving gameplay mechanics. It has multiple game modes and over 100 levels for players to take on. It also features gamepad support for those who prefer a different control input.
A classic revived
Much like the original game, Lode Runner Classic has you control a stick figure tasked with navigating static levels and collecting gold spread throughout them. The catch is there are various obstacles and enemies in the way, and you also cannot jump or shoot back. Rely on your quick wits to overcome them to have a chance at getting the prize.
This adventure game has two modes, with the first being Exhibition which is the main campaign wherein you'll take on 150 levels. The other is Time Attack, which will play out the same way, only your goal is to finish each level as fast as you can. Climb up and down ladders, avoid enemy fire, and reach that precious loot unscathed.
What's more, the game comes with some nice accessibility features, including zoom options, multiple gameplay speeds, and fully adjustable color palettes. You can even compete for the best scores and times in the global leaderboards. Now, the controls take some time getting used to, which is crucial for a game that relies on speed and reflexes. However, you do have the option to use third-party controllers to play.
Impressive remake
All in all, Lode Runner Classic is an impressive and fun remake of the original game that stays faithful to its gameplay while making enough changes and additions to make it feel fresh and modern. The controls will require some finessing, but you can also opt to use a gamepad for a better experience. Aside from that, this gets an easy recommendation and well worth trying out.
